Sometimes, the simplest fix is a reboot. If you're experiencing slow connectivity, dropped connections, or no access at all, restarting your router or firewall may help — but only if done correctly.
This guide explains how to safely power cycle your networking equipment without disrupting your environment or risking configuration loss.
⚠️ Before You Begin:
• Do not press the reset button — this may erase your configuration.
• Ensure that no one is currently performing critical work online.
• Take note of any visible error lights or messages for reporting to support.
✅ Step-by-Step: Power Cycling Your Router / Firewall:
1. Unplug the Power Cord:
• Gently unplug the power adapter from the back of your router or firewall.
• If you have both, power them off in the following order:
• Router.
• Firewall (if separate).
2. Wait 30 Seconds: This allows capacitors to fully discharge & the device to clear memory.
3. Plug Devices Back In:
• Power on your firewall first, then your router. Wait for lights to stabilize — this may take 2–5 minutes.
4. Check Connectivity:
• Try opening a website or accessing a network resource.
• If connectivity is not restored, contact our support team.
🧠 Advanced Tip
If your router or firewall is connected to a UPS or power strip, confirm it has power & isn't tripped. Avoid using surge strips that automatically shut off during outages.
❌ What NOT to Do:
• Avoid pressing the RESET pinhole - unless instructed by our technicians.
• Do not restart devices repeatedly — wait & observe after a full cycle.
• Never disconnect Ethernet cables unless you're familiar with the setup.
